Jon was a gold medal winner at the 1997 Canadian University Track and Field Championships, was the Captain of the University of Western Ontario Track and Field Team (1995 to 1997), and earned First Team All Canadian status as a track and field athlete.

$10 million settlement in favour of borrowers of payday loans from the Cash Store and Instaloans
$56 million trial judgment vs London Life and Great-West Life regarding internal corporate transactions involving funds in the participating policyholder accounts of both companies. The remedies ordered also included significant accounting restatements that benefitted the class.
$80 million settlement of the DRAM computer memory price fixing matter and the successful settlement distribution plan in that case which paid money to nearly one million households, businesses, institutions and governmental entities all across Canada.
$45 million settlement in copyright litigation against major record labels for non-payment of royalties to Canadian copyright owners of musical works
$7.535 million settlement of a price-fixing action against manufacturers of lawnmowers and lawnmower engines.
$35 million settlement of pension surplus dispute on behalf of members of the Canada Life pension plan.
$11 million settlement in favour of shareholders of the TSX listed company Baja Mining.
$4.77 million settlement involving price-fixing of certain hermetically sealed compressor units used primarily in refrigeration and freezing applications.
In Court
Jon also has as much trial experience as any plaintiff side class action lawyer in Ontario, having acted for class members in two major class action trials against major Canadian life insurers lasting a total of nearly 80 days between them with appeals to higher courts in each case. Jon appeared before the Supreme Court of Canada in Godfrey v. Pioneer et al., on behalf of the Consumer’s Council of Canada in a landmark price-fixing class action appeal.
Making Law Approachable
Jon also served as an adjunct law professor at Western University where he taught class actions to upper year students in the JD program. He earned a place on the University Student Council’s Teaching Honour Roll based on the feedback received from his students. Jon also frequently writes papers and presents on class actions at leading legal conferences offered by the Ontario Bar Association, the Law Society of Upper Canada, the Advocate’s Society, and the Osgoode Class Actions Symposium.
Jon is often called upon to provide legal commentary to media outlets across Canada on class actions generally and in respect of his cases, particularly in the settlement distribution context. Jon has been interviewed by CBC Marketplace, CTV W5, the Globe and Mail, the National Post and the Toronto Star among many other media outlets.
